About Dessie Marie Morgan
Inspire * Empower * Change
I am a widow with three adult children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. I’ve been an ordained minister for over 30 years and most friends and family affectionately refer to me as Minister Dessie. I serve as a home manager for a prominent ministry in West Bloomfield, Michigan where I teach developmentally disabled/special needs men how to live independently. I am the founder of Sam and Ada's Special Delight Dollar Deli.
In 2004, my husband lost a hard-fought battle with cancer. Losing my husband and the resulting financial hardships led me to redefine my life and the impact I wanted to create. I know that there are others like me that need to create their own destiny and establish some financial security. I’ve developed a deep sense of passion for motivating and educating myself to reach greater heights in business – now I want to help others to do the same.
I started Dollar Deli in 2008 as one of the first restaurant kiosks at Russell Bazaar, 1600 Clay Avenue, Detroit Michigan. The vision of Dollar Deli is to employ the developmentally disabled/special needs population, providing them with supplemental income. In 2010 Dollar Deli expanded, opening its first location supporting the U.S. Military at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, Michigan. Dollar Deli continued its expansion, opening a satellite deli at Oakland University Riverview School of Nursing in Detroit Michigan. Today Dollar Deli is located at the Michigan Army National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters in Lansing, Michigan and has contracts with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (Exchange) or “AAFES,” to provide Dollar Deli sandwiches at the USCG Air Station Detroit, Michigan. AAFES is the retailer on U.S. Army and Air Force installations worldwide.
